Maura's #BlueRibbon Campaign
On the evening of Feb 9, 2004, Maura disappeared after her car crashed on Rt. 112 in Haverhill, N.H. For sixteen years, a blue ribbon was placed around a tree near the location she was last seen before vanishing without a trace. Maura’s blue ribbon serves as a symbol to remember and honor her.
In partnership with N.H. residents, and supporters across the world, the Murray family launched Maura’s #BlueRibbon Campaign in July 2020 to remember and honor Maura as we continue our fight to bring her home. The three goals of Maura’s #BlueRibbon Campaign include: 1. Protect Maura’s Blue Ribbon. In 2020, the N.H. State House passed HB1255, a bill that would have torn down Maura’s blue ribbon. The Murray family contacted leaders in the State Senate to voice opposition to the bill, helping to defeat the measure, ensuring that Maura’s ribbon, and other roadside memorials, remain temporarily protected. 2. Preserve Maura’s Blue Ribbon tree. In 2020, local landowners informed the Murray’s of their plan to cut down the tree with Maura’s blue ribbon. The Murray family offered to purchase the tree, lease the land, and undertake any means necessary to preserve the tree. UPDATE: On Feb. 26, 2021 the N.H. victim advocate office informed the Murray's the tree had been destroyed. 3. Erect N.H. Historical Marker Recognizing Maura's Disappearance. On Oct 16, 2020 an official request was made to the N.H. Division of Historical Resources to erect a State Highway Historical Marker recognizing Maura's disappearance at the location she was last seen on Rt 112. UPDATE: On March 5, 2021 Mr. Ben Wilson (Dir. of N.H. Div. of Historical Resources) denied the request citing arbitrary "requirements." On March 9, 2021 Julie Murray sent an appeal for reconsideration to Mr. Wilson and N.H. Governor Sununu. Visit the Call to Action page to show support. |
