Murray Family Responds to Newly Launched Website Spreading False and Malicious Claims
As a tribute to Maura on her 38th birthday, our family launched a new website dedicated to her memory and to provide an official source of constructive and factual information for the remarkable and dedicated members of the community helping us find her. Regrettably, James Renner has responded by launching his own website in his continued pursuit of personal and financial gain at the expense of our family and our efforts to find Maura. His portrayal of Maura, our family, and the rest of his contrived “cast of characters” does not reflect reality; it instead reflects his choice to classify anyone that refuses to speak with him as inherently devious or suspicious, including the one person that has unquestionably done the most to find Maura, our father. It is also why the New Yorker described Renner as "embodying every problem that arises when online obsessives are infected with delusions of detective grandeur” in their review of his book. The distorted reality that he is promoting directly undermines the stated goals of the official website, which is to eliminate the white noise and confusion that distracts attention away from our ultimate goal, which is to find Maura and bring her home.
Our family is thankful for the community and for the support of respected journalists like Maribeth Conway, national media outlets like ABC’s 20/20, regional and local outlets like the Journal Opinion, WCVB-Boston, and WATD 95.9 News, and members of the True Crime community, like True Crime Garage, that have responsibly covered Maura's disappearance over the past sixteen years. We are confident that together with the help of the media and the Maura Murray community, we will find Maura and bring her home.
