Murray Family Presents Second Annual Maura Murray Scholarship

My family presented the second annual Maura Murray Scholarship on May 29, 2024 during a ceremony at Whitman-Hanson High School.  The scholarship was created last year in Maura’s honor to award a graduating senior who demonstrates outstanding academic and athletic achievement.  

Maura was a 2000 graduate of Whitman-Hanson and captain of the cross country team. She was a fierce competitor in track and cross country, setting multiple school records, selected as a Boston Globe All-Scholastic, and a US Nationals qualifier. She graduated fourth in her class and was a member of the National Honor Society.  

My family created the scholarship to recognize a scholar-athlete who embodies Maura’s enduring legacy of determination, leadership and work ethic.  This year’s recipient was selected by the Head Cross Country and Track Coach Mr. Stephen George saying in part, “Senior Lynn MCoy has been a member of our teams during her four years at Whitman-Hanson and has been an exemplary student-athlete.   Through her achievements in academics and athletics she has become an articulate and confident leader, much like Maura.”

Our family is honored to continue to keep Maura’s memory alive in such a positive way.  Many thanks to Coach George and Ms. Horan for their contributions.
